Iran drone attack on Bahrain air navigation systems

Iran used drones to strike Bahrain’s navigation systems, the country’s Civil Aviation Affairs confirmed, while stressing that air traffic was not disrupted.

In a statement, the authority said: "As a result of an act of Iranian aggression against the Kingdom of Bahrain, the civil air navigation systems within the country’s airspace were targeted by hostile drones".

It added that "air navigation operations were not affected", noting that "flights and air traffic" continued as normal.

Bahrain Army statement and response

On Monday, the Bahrain Defence Force said that "Iran continues its systematic aggression through heinous attacks against civilians in Bahrain", before stating that this "treacherous Iranian air attack" had been repelled.

The military did not indicate how many missiles or drones were intercepted, and Iran has not yet claimed responsibility for the strike.

In a separate message posted on social media, Bahrain’s armed forces said that "all its weapons and units are at the highest level of readiness and alert to protect the Kingdom". They also urged residents to keep away from any "suspicious objects" that may have fallen inside the country.

The Bahrain Defence Force further argued that "the deliberate use of missiles and drones against civilian targets and private property constitutes a flagrant violation of international law", and highlighted the "advanced combat capabilities and enhanced surveillance" shown by security forces in repelling the attack.

Regional tensions involving the United States and Iran

The United States has been carrying out strikes against Iran for several days, citing alleged breaches of a memorandum of understanding-an accusation Tehran has rejected. Iran has, in turn, denounced ceasefire violations and responded with attacks on US interests in the region, fuelling fears that talks towards a peace agreement could collapse.
