Spanish Army begins tender for FPV drone training kits with €430,000 budget

The Spanish Army has launched a tender process today to purchase more than twenty FPV drone training kits. This procurement forms part of the Army’s ongoing push to broaden its use of unmanned systems, and it has a base budget of €430,000.

Tender details and delivery

According to documents published in Spain’s Official State Gazette, the Spanish Army is seeking approximately 24 FPV drone instruction kits, each priced at €17,950.00 (excluding VAT). Once the contract is awarded, the equipment must be delivered to the Helicopter Maintenance Park and Centre, the logistics organisation based at “Coronel Maté” base in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid.

What the FPV training kits include

These FPV instruction kits, described as a “battalion module”, may incorporate a range of core elements required for basic operator training, including the aircraft, a remote controller and immersive goggles. The set can also be expanded with additional FPV-drone-related accessories, such as battery cells, gimbals and different types of sensors.

FPV Drone Practical School for the Spanish Army

In October 2025, the Army Aviation Academy (ACAVIET) hosted an initial meeting intended to drive forward the creation of the FPV Drone Flight Practical School. As the Spanish Army previously reported, it is “...a project that will allow the Army to be equipped with an advanced training capability in the employment of these systems...”.

From there, the Army set out a number of guidelines covering both equipment and personnel. On the one hand, it planned the purchase of the first initial training kits, while also laying the groundwork to establish the core training structure. This includes courses for ACAVIET instructors, training for unit instructors and, lastly, operator training.

The planned roadmap is intended to finish with further procurement of FPV drone systems, in this case to be issued as standard equipment to the Force’s various units. The institution explained: “...These future acquisitions form part of the transformation that Spanish Army units will undergo in the short term with the arrival of all kinds of aircraft, where FPV will play a leading role as effectors in the robotic band, where it is expected that the main contact will be with or between unmanned systems...”.
