GoPro unveils Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS action cameras

GoPro has revealed a fresh line-up of cameras, with three models on the bill: the Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro and the Mission 1 Pro ILS. Is this the next benchmark in action cameras?

With its lead increasingly challenged in the action camera world, GoPro is responding with a product positioned as a new market staple: the Mission 1 range. It consists of three devices - the standard Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro, and the Mission 1 Pro ILS.

All three sit at the premium end and share the same core hardware: a 1-inch, 50-megapixel sensor and a GP3 processor built on a 5 nm process.

Sensor, video modes and Micro Four Thirds lens option

In terms of recording, the Mission 1 is capable of 8K at 30 fps, while the two higher models push up to 8K at 60 fps. They also reach up to 1080p at 960 fps, catering to anyone keen on extreme slow motion.

The most advanced version, the Mission 1 Pro ILS, separates itself with the option to mount a Micro Four Thirds lens. It will work with lenses from OM System as well as Panasonic, which is particularly useful for capturing subjects at a distance. GoPro also notes OLED screens that are 14% larger than those on the Hero 13.

The Mission 1, Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1 Pro ILS also stand out for supporting 4:3 open gate. In practical terms, they record using 100% of the sensor area, making it easier to reframe afterwards - whether you want a vertical or a horizontal video.

On the audio side, the Mission 1 cameras include four 32-bit stereo microphones, paired with a wind-noise reduction system.

Toughness, Enduro 2 battery and availability

Designed with extreme sports in mind, these cameras offer waterproofing down to 20 metres. They use an Enduro 2 battery, and GoPro claims up to three hours of recording in 4K at 30 fps - plenty for filming your exploits. Thermal management is also part of the package, the company says.

It will be possible to attach a Hero 13 battery to squeeze out a bit more battery life. Beyond that, they include the usual array of features expected in this category: subject tracking, stabilisation, slow-motion and time-lapse modes, a vlog mode, and more.

The Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro will go on sale from 28 May 2026, while the Mission 1 Pro ILS is due towards the end of the year. GoPro has not yet announced pricing, but that information should follow soon. In any case, the brand is promising a new market reference - a claim we will be scrutinising closely in our test.
