Amazon Prime Video’s Apple TV offer is not very tempting

Amazon Prime Video’s offer is not especially tempting. Here is why.

When we received Amazon’s press release, entitled: “Apple TV launches on Prime Video in France this Tuesday 21 April as part of its ongoing global rollout”, our first thought was that it represented a major opportunity for French customers of the streaming service. Reading on, however, quickly dampened that enthusiasm.

Apple TV on Prime Video: no price advantage

As the tech giant explains:

From today, Apple TV is available in France through Prime Video as an add-on subscription, priced at €9.99 per month or €99 per year. Amazon customers who subscribe to Apple TV via Prime Video will gain access to premium entertainment, including award-winning hit series and globally successful films such as Hijack, Pluribus, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Silo, The Gorge, Carême, Masters of the Air, Ted Lasso, Vrais Voisins, Faux Amis, Margo a des problèmes d’Argent and many more, as well as live sport.

That is correct: customers will have to pay precisely the same amount as they would by taking out an Apple TV subscription separately. This makes the offer considerably less appealing than Canal+, which includes the streaming platform at no extra cost in most of its packages.

A growing catalogue

Prime Video instead highlights the all-in-one nature of its app, noting that Apple TV “joins Prime Video’s extensive catalogue of add-on subscriptions, including HBO Max, Ligue 1+, Paramount+, Crunchyroll, MGM and Ciné+OCS, which are offered to customers alongside Amazon MGM Originals productions, including Fallout, Heads of State, Reacher, The Boys, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power; films and series available to buy or rent; and live sporting events, including the NBA and Roland-Garros”.

Presse-citron’s view

As mentioned above, we were somewhat underwhelmed by an offer that initially appeared far more significant. While this addition is hardly spectacular, it at least provides another subscription option for Prime Video customers who do not want to manage multiple accounts.
