A message you certainly should not delete!

If you receive regular messages from French Health Insurance, they are not a scam. The organisation has announced that it now sends every insured person an email every ten days whenever one or more payments have been made on their behalf by French Health Insurance.

Raising awareness and tackling fraud more effectively

When asked about the initiative by Le Parisien in 2025, French Health Insurance gave two main reasons for introducing it. First, it aims to make people in France more aware of the cost of healthcare. Under the third-party payment system, treatment can appear almost free or painless, but that is not the case: these costs are funded through national solidarity and contributions paid by employees and businesses.

The second reason concerns fraud. In 2024, French Health Insurance identified and prevented €628 million worth of fraud, 70% of which was committed by healthcare professionals. Quoted by our colleagues, Marc Scholler, Deputy Director of French Health Insurance responsible for audit, finance and fraud prevention, explained:

“With third-party payment, fictitious or overcharged procedures can be billed in your name without you knowing, because you never check your online statement and therefore do not have the information,” Marc Scholler explains. “Here, we are encouraging you to look at the reimbursement details and raise the alarm if there is fraud.”

Insured people can therefore visit their Ameli account and, if they spot an issue, speak to the chatbot to “report a suspicious reimbursement”. They will then be offered a form under the heading “Healthcare reimbursements”, enabling them to notify the administration about a medical procedure or treatment that was not provided.

French Health Insurance reminders for patients

French Health Insurance regularly runs communications campaigns aimed at people in France. In June 2025, for example, the organisation contacted 500,000 insured people living with chronic illnesses to remind them of the importance of regular appointments with their GP.

“These calls are intended to ensure that the care pathway for the people concerned is running smoothly and, where necessary, to direct them to their usual doctor,” it said at the time. More information on this subject can be found in our previous article here.
