Meta has quietly rolled out a new app called Pocket. It uses AI to generate mini-games and then lets users share what they have made with others. For now, the app is not available everywhere, although it is already listed on the Google Play Store.
AI coding tools are now capable enough that almost anyone can build an app or a small game from a simple written description. Meta clearly wants to make that kind of creation more mainstream. Without much fanfare, it has launched Pocket, an app that combines social-network-style features with AI and gaming.
Creating and sharing mini-games with AI in Pocket
In Pocket, users can produce mini-games with AI simply by typing a prompt that describes what they want. Once the game is generated, it can be shared with the wider community. The app also includes a feed where you can browse and try creations made by other users.
A low-profile launch, and not yet available worldwide
There has been no official announcement so far, but the app already appears on the Google Play Store. In its description, Meta says: “Pocket is a creative platform for making and sharing gadgets. A gadget is a small interactive object you can play with by touching the screen… and you can make one simply by describing it”. However, you may not yet be able to use this new Meta app.
Meta notes on a help page that Pocket is not currently available in every country. And even if you can access the app, some features may still be unavailable where you live.
Meta’s wider AI push behind Pocket
While Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp remain Meta’s flagship apps, the company is now treating AI as its top priority. According to Business Insider, earlier this year Meta hired the team behind Gizmo, an app that is very similar to Pocket. On top of that recruitment, Meta also acquired a licence to use the developer’s technologies.
