Singapore Navy launches second MRCV uncrewed frigate Valour with ST Engineering

ST Engineering has put the Republic of Singapore Navy’s second of six new MRCV uncrewed frigates into the water, as part of one of the country’s flagship naval modernisation efforts being delivered alongside the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA). The newly named Valour marks another milestone for a class intended to blend surface-warfare capability with the ability to operate uncrewed systems.

Construction of the Singapore Navy’s MRCV Frigates Moves Forward

MRCV Valour launched as the second ship in the class

ST Engineering confirmed the launch of MRCV Valour, the second of six Multi-Role Combat Vessels (MRCVs) planned for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The company said the event sustains the momentum of a programme viewed as strategically important to Singapore’s maritime security, while keeping progress on track for integrating next-generation naval capabilities.

Capabilities highlighted by ST Engineering

In a statement released by the firm, it noted: “With this milestone, we maintain the momentum of this mission-critical programme, developing each subsequent vessel to deliver future-ready capabilities that will strengthen Singapore’s maritime defence.” ST Engineering also underlined that the work showcases its experience in designing, building and integrating advanced naval platforms-bringing together navigation systems, uncrewed-vehicle operations, combat systems, cyber-secure communications, and command-and-control networks.

The launch comes six months after the same vessel’s keel-laying ceremony, held on 27 January 2026. At the time, ST Engineering said the progress represented “an important milestone that ensures solid progress for the programme and a strong foundation for the rest of the class ships”, pointing to its track record in developing ships tailored to the operational demands of modern navies.

A Programme Involving Local and International Industry

Saab and the composite superstructures

The MRCV (Multi-Role Combat Vessel) programme brings together a mix of Singaporean and international companies. Sweden’s Saab is involved in the ship design and is also responsible for developing, producing and carrying out the final assembly of the composite superstructures that will be fitted to all six frigates. Penguin Shipyard International is contributing to the manufacture of these structures, which will incorporate the bridge, radars, sensors and a range of subsystems.

Industrial milestones remain on schedule

In fact, in late June 2026, Penguin Shipyard International delivered the first of the six superstructures to Saab, adding another milestone to the programme’s industrial timetable. With the launch of MRCV Valour, the Republic of Singapore Navy continues to advance the introduction of a new generation of multi-mission frigates designed for both conventional combat tasks and operations involving uncrewed systems.
