Apple has introduced a new option designed to refine the Liquid Glass interface in iOS 26 on iPhone. The aim is to make on-screen content easier to read and, in turn, to address the complaints that have surrounded this new look.
In an effort to shift attention away from its lag in AI, Apple rolled out a sweeping visual overhaul across its platforms, built around the new Liquid Glass design language. At the heart of this redesign is the use of translucent UI elements. However, while the effect can be attractive, iOS 26-the update that brought in this visual language-has not won everyone over. In particular, some users have highlighted usability issues, arguing that the operating system’s transparency makes certain elements harder to read.
Apple corrects course with an update
If you’re among those who aren’t convinced by iOS 26’s design, there is some good news. Apple has recently released iOS 26.1, which adds a new option that makes transparent elements more opaque.
“The Liquid Glass setting lets you choose between the default transparent appearance or a new tinted appearance that increases the material’s opacity in apps and notifications on the Lock Screen”, according to the update’s description.
On X, many users have already shared side-by-side comparisons of the standard option versus the new tinted option, showing that it improves the readability of the operating system’s content.
iOS 27: the update we’re really waiting for?
Separately, as mentioned in a previous article, Apple is already working on the next major release. And according to rumours, while iOS 26 was largely an aesthetic update, iOS 27 could instead focus on improving everything related to artificial intelligence. Specifically, the Cupertino company is said to be planning a major upgrade to Apple Intelligence as part of this new OS.
Apple is also continuing development of the next version of Siri, which could arrive before the unveiling of iOS 27 (scheduled for June).
