Nintendo raises Switch 2 sales targets by 31 March 2026

The Switch 2 appears to be outperforming even Nintendo’s most optimistic expectations, prompting the Japanese giant to raise its sales targets for the period ending 31 March 2026.

A record start for the Nintendo Switch 2

Released shortly before summer, the Switch 2 got off to a flying start. Plenty of observers still expected Nintendo’s new console to lose momentum quickly, but the figures tell a different story: as of 30 September-less than four months after launch-more than 10.36 million units had already been shipped worldwide. That is a historic record, making Switch 2 the first console ever to pass the 10 million mark in such a short timeframe.

Nintendo raises its Switch 2 sales targets

This will disappoint anyone who saw the Switch 2-our full review is available at this address-as the beginning of the end for Nintendo. Even if the console has not won over quite as many people as the company had hoped, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still enjoying strong success, fuelled by compelling exclusives and valuable backwards compatibility, further enhanced by sometimes very effective optimisations.

Alongside the 10.36 million consoles shipped, the Japanese firm also confirms sales of more than 20.62 million Switch 2 games, including 9.57 million copies of Mario Kart World. Nintendo notes that 84% of the game’s sales come from the bundle that also includes the console.

The other standout Switch 2 exclusive, the ape-led Donkey Kong Bananza, released in the middle of July, has sold around 3.5 million units-an especially respectable performance given the current installed base.

Regional performance: Europe, Japan and the Americas

In Europe, 2.40 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles have found buyers, compared with 2.35 million in Japan alone. In the Americas, Nintendo has sold no fewer than 3.68 million units, with the remaining 1.9 million split across the rest of the world.

These results are enough for Nintendo to publicly express its confidence and lift its ambitions: the company now targets 19 million Switch 2 units sold, up from the 15 million previously forecast. The outlook for software has been revised in the same direction, with a goal of 48 million games sold by 31 March 2026, versus 45 million before.

On the financial side, revenue has doubled compared with last year, while net profit has already climbed beyond one billion euros-even though the festive season has yet to begin.

Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games

Following the very recent Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Nintendo is also set to release Kirby Air Riders on 20 November, and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond in early December.
