The story around processor swapping in Chuwi laptops continues to gather pace and has now spread beyond a single brand. Fresh evidence suggests that, at least in some units from Ninkear, the same kind of substitution has occurred: documentation lists a Ryzen 5 7430U, but the hardware appears to be a Ryzen 5 5500U.
Evidence reported for the Ninkear A15 Pro
A reader of ComputerBase, using the pseudonym Kdr, has shared screenshots indicating that this swap affects their Ninkear A15 Pro. They bought the laptop in late 2025.
AMD comments on the Ryzen 5 7430U / Ryzen 5 5500U labelling
The situation has also reached AMD, which chose to comment while stressing that it has nothing to do with these practices.
"AMD recently learned that Chuwi had unauthorisedly labelled AMD Ryzen 5 5500U products as Ryzen 5 7430U. AMD has never authorised, confirmed, or tacitly agreed to the above actions in any form. AMD did not participate in any decisions regarding the labelling or marketing of these products and was unaware of it."
"AMD adheres to clear and strict rules governing the naming, use, and labelling of its product models. Any unauthorised use of our model names or false labelling would seriously disrupt normal market order and may mislead consumers."
"AMD has always attached great importance to the accuracy and transparency of product information and strives to maintain a fair and orderly market environment, as well as protect the legitimate rights and interests of users. We treat this matter with the utmost seriousness and reserve the right to pursue legal liability of the relevant parties in accordance with the law."
Refunds, affected product lines, and a CPU-Z update
It is also worth noting that the Chinese distributor Hornington has already started issuing refunds for such laptops to customers who contact the company. It also named three affected product lines: CoreBook X 7430U, CoreBook Plus 7430U and UBOX 7430U.
The CPU-Z developers have responded too, releasing an update to the app. The software now identifies these counterfeit Ryzen 5 7430U APUs specifically as Ryzen 5 5500U.
Chuwi itself, after an initial reaction that included threats towards the media, continues to remain silent.
