New sensors promise a sharp leap in zoom quality and night photography

Smartphone makers are actively preparing to bring LOFIC technology to mobile cameras. LOFIC enables high dynamic range (HDR), significantly reduces noise, and performs strongly in difficult lighting - from bright sunshine through to night shooting.

A whole family of 50 MP sensors is involved, offered in several formats - 1/1.28, 1/1.56 and 1/2.5 inches - and these will primarily be used in telephoto lenses. This should noticeably improve zoom image quality, particularly in challenging light.

It is also noted that companies are already testing dual LOFIC solutions, which could push dynamic range and detail to a new level. In addition, an advanced 200 MP periscope module is in development, using a 1/1.56-inch sensor and supporting LOFIC.
