Huawei’s 20 April presentation and the updated Pura line-up

Huawei has scheduled a product event for 20 April, where it is expected to unveil a refreshed Pura range. The update is said to cover the Pura 90 series, which the company has already begun teasing, as well as a foldable handset within the Pura X family. According to the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, this new foldable model will be called the Pura X Max.

Separately, another source, Fixed Focus Digital, has shared what they claim are images showing the front and rear design of the foldable device.

Huawei Pura X Max: form factor, displays and aspect ratio

Compared with the original Pura X, the new X Max is reportedly moving to a slightly different, wider layout. The design is described as similar to the much-rumoured Apple iPhone Fold (or Ultra) concept, with Huawei potentially becoming the first brand to release a device in this format.

The leak points to a 7.69-inch WQHD+ inner display, paired with a 5.5-inch outer screen. For context, the original Huawei Pura X uses a 6.3-inch internal OLED panel and a 3.5-inch external display.

On the inside, the larger panel is said to provide more usable area, helped by slimmer bezels and a small cut-out for the front-facing camera. The outer screen, which reportedly features the same style of cut-out, is positioned as the display for everyday tasks. Huawei is also expected to stick with a 16:10 aspect ratio, matching the previous model.

Kirin 9030 and Huawei Red Maple camera system

Rumours suggest the Pura X Max will be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9030 system-on-chip, the same platform that is expected to appear across the Pura 90 line. The chip is said to adopt a new 9-core architecture.

In addition, the foldable is tipped to arrive with a Huawei Red Maple four-camera system, with particular attention reportedly going towards upgrades to the telephoto camera.

Rival foldables and the track record of the leakers

Apple is widely believed to be developing a foldable iPhone with a similar tablet-like aspect ratio, which may debut in September. At the same time, Samsung is also said to be preparing a wider foldable model referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.

Fixed Focus Digital has previously shared claimed details about a desktop-style version of HarmonyOS, leaked photos of the iPhone SE4, and published renders of the Huawei Pocket 2, while also reporting that Apple had stopped work on a foldable iPhone.

Digital Chat Station, meanwhile, was previously first to accurately report specifications for the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, as well as claiming that the Realme GT 7 Pro would use a bright Samsung display and that the Dimensity 9400 SoC would arrive ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
