Emirates Starlink Wi‑Fi reaches one million onboard connections

Emirates has passed the milestone of one million passenger connections to Starlink Wi‑Fi across its fleet, achieved just seven months after the service launched onboard. Use has already topped one petabyte of data, underlining how quickly travellers have taken to the airline’s high-speed connectivity.

The airline says many customers report that the inflight connection feels comparable to, and in some cases better than, what they experience at home. The service is provided free of charge in every cabin class, with browsing, email and messaging apps supported on most routes.

Starlink rollout on Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft

Starlink connectivity is currently installed on 33 Boeing 777 aircraft and three Airbus A380 aircraft, with the rollout continuing as additional airframes enter service each week. On average, more than 60 flights a day now operate with the technology, enabling streaming, video calls, social media, online gaming and real-time communication while in the air.

To speed up deployment, equipment is being fitted at Emirates’ engineering facilities in Dubai. So far, 33 Boeing 777 and three Airbus A380 aircraft have been completed.

Bandwidth, A380 antenna set-up and upcoming enhancements

Emirates positions this upgrade as part of a longer progression in onboard connectivity. The carrier notes it was among the first to introduce internet on Airbus A380 services, at a time when low-capacity systems delivered under 1 Mbps per aircraft. Today, Starlink-equipped A380s can exceed 2 Gbps of combined bandwidth, supporting continuous browsing and streaming at around 12,200 metres.

On the A380 specifically, the installation uses three dedicated antennas, designed to suit the aircraft’s two-deck structure and high passenger density, helping maintain steadier coverage across all classes.

Emirates also says further improvements are being worked on, including future integration of live TV directly into the inflight entertainment system, as well as access through passengers’ personal devices.

Connectivity as part of Emirates’ wider cabin modernisation

The inflight Wi‑Fi rollout sits alongside a broader fleet upgrade programme. In total, 128 aircraft have already received a full cabin refurbishment, including the introduction of Premium Economy, updates to Business Class and First Class, enhancements in Economy, and an expanded inflight entertainment offering that now provides more than 6,500 channels.
