Meta has teamed up with EssilorLuxottica to bring out a new pair of connected glasses: the Meta Glasses. The pitch is clear: a fashion-forward look with a price that stays within reach.

The Meta Ray-Ban range effectively created a new category that Meta intends to capitalise on before rivals push in hard over the coming months. The drawback so far is that the product has mainly appealed to power users-tech enthusiasts keen to try the latest features. With the Meta Glasses, Meta is aiming for a much broader audience by putting style front and centre.

Three frames, 26 models, and prescription lenses

To do that, Meta worked with EssilorLuxottica on three new frames: Meta Adventurer, with a rectangular shape; Meta Fury, presented as having a “bold” design; and Meta by Kylie, developed with an influencer and built around an oval silhouette. Add in multiple colour options and the line-up reaches 26 models in total.

Meta also notes that these glasses can be fitted with prescription lenses without voiding the warranty, as long as the work is carried out by an optician.

Meta Glasses: AI-powered smart glasses

In terms of hardware, the Meta Glasses follow the familiar first-generation Meta Ray-Ban recipe: built-in speakers, a camera, and microphones. There is no display in the lenses.

What is new is the integration of Meta’s assistant, Meta AI, powered by the company’s latest in-house model, Muse Spark. The aim is to deliver more relevant answers based on context. For instance, Meta says the AI can interpret what’s around you to help you pick a good restaurant, according to its press release:

“With this version of Meta AI, your AI glasses will give you smarter answers on everything, from sports scores to recommendations for local restaurants. They’ll better understand what you’re seeing and help you manage your everyday life effortlessly-whether you’re building healthy habits, keeping on top of your calendar, or navigating a packed schedule-all hands-free.”

Another benefit of the AI is photo handling: when you take a shot, it will capture several images so it can suggest the best result. Users will also be able to rely on existing features such as instant translation. Meta is also promising regular updates to refine the experience-reassurance for buyers that the brand will not drop support shortly after purchase.

Price and availability

The new Meta Glasses are available from today on Meta’s online shop for €309, a particularly competitive price. The Meta by Kylie version, meanwhile, starts at €419.
