iPhone 18: Apple could delay the cheaper model until 2027

Apple’s updated launch timetable is becoming clearer. The company is expected to unveil only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone in September. Anyone hoping to buy the cheaper iPhone 18 may have to wait until 2027.

As September approaches, Apple product enthusiasts are increasingly focused on the keynote at which the Cupertino company will reveal its new iPhones. However, people hoping to get one of the latest iPhones without spending too much could be disappointed.

For some time, rumours have suggested that Apple will introduce only the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the “Fold” or “Ultra” iPhone, its first foldable smartphone, this year. Put simply, only the most expensive models would arrive this autumn, while the lower-cost iPhone 18 would not launch until spring 2027.

September launch focused on premium iPhone models

The most impatient fans would therefore have no alternative but to choose the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max or foldable iPhone, even though all signs point to higher prices. Those on a tighter budget, meanwhile, would need to wait until spring 2027 to buy the standard iPhone 18.

The revised Apple timetable takes shape

For now, this revised schedule has not been made official. Nevertheless, the likelihood that the reports surrounding it are accurate continues to grow. This week, MacRumors cited a Taiwanese publication reporting that Pegatron, one of Apple’s main suppliers, had confirmed during a conference call that one of its clients had changed its usual delivery schedule.

Why Apple could separate its iPhone launches

In any case, such a change would make complete sense. Apple no longer offers just two or three smartphones each year, but a broader range. Alongside the standard model and the Pro and Pro Max versions, the company has developed the design-focused iPhone Air. Apple also now releases an affordable iPhone version every year. If the rumours are correct, the foldable iPhone will soon join that line-up as well.

If Apple unveiled every one of these models at the same keynote, they could overshadow one another.

iPhone 18: a welcome surprise, but delayed?

Those prepared to wait for the iPhone 18, should it be pushed back to 2027, may receive a welcome surprise. A recent rumour suggests that the iPhone 18 could feature 12 GB of RAM, compared with 8 GB on the iPhone 17. This upgrade could make the iPhone run more smoothly and should also enable the iPhone 18 to support more artificial intelligence-based features.

As for its design, the iPhone 18, like the iPhone 18 Pro, is also expected to have a smaller Dynamic Island cut-out, making the display more pleasant to use.
