Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: first real look in a report

The Galaxy Z TriFold has been generating chatter for months. Now, Samsung has given us a look at what it actually looks like in a report. One thing is clear: it could reshape the way we use our phones.

Samsung pioneered foldable smartphones with the Galaxy Fold in 2019, and has refined the concept ever since. In 2025, the next major step could arrive with the Galaxy Z TriFold - a handset whose display doesn’t fold in two, but in three. Today, we have a much clearer idea of its real-world design.

First public sighting of the Galaxy Z TriFold in Seoul

The device was shown at the APEC show in Seoul. Korean channel Subusunews was able to get close to it and take a detailed look. There was no hands-on time - the TriFold stayed safely behind glass - but its appearance already reveals plenty.

A phone that looks ready for sale

The most obvious takeaway: this doesn’t appear to be a Samsung Display prototype, but an actual Samsung smartphone. It’s worth remembering that Samsung Display (which is not Samsung) has previously exhibited multi-fold screens in various forms, including at MWC - but those demos focused on the panel only. Here, we’re looking at a complete product.

Familiar Z Fold styling, with a three-panel build

Visually, it follows the Z Fold design language, including a vertically aligned rear camera module. The TriFold is split into three panels. On the back, the central section includes a “standard” screen, intended for normal smartphone use when the device is folded. Alongside it, another display spans the full chassis, delivering a huge viewing area for watching films or getting work done.

This larger display folds into three parts using two hinges. It’s a slightly different approach from Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses a single display.

Thin when opened, twin hinges, and two selfie cameras

The presenter highlights several notable details. First, when unfolded, the smartphone looks extremely slim - echoing the impressive Galaxy Z Fold 7 released last August. When folded, it also doesn’t appear especially thick.

Second, the two hinges are not identical, which makes sense given the panels need to stack neatly once closed. Third, the TriFold includes two selfie cameras: one on the inner screen and one on the outer screen - just like the Z Fold 7, which seems to be the reference point.

What Samsung still isn’t saying: specs, launch timing, and price

For now, Samsung hasn’t started to communicate “properly” about the TriFold. For example, none of its technical specifications are known. There’s also no confirmed date for its unveiling, but with such an advanced prototype, it may only be a matter of months.

One last question remains: the price. It could reach between 3000 and 3500 dollars - a hefty sum for a product that seems more like a showcase of Samsung’s know-how than a guaranteed mass-market hit.
