DDR4 pricing revives AMD AM4 demand

Upheaval in the memory market has effectively handed AMD AM4 a second lease of life, and that shift has clearly fed through into CPU sales. The US Amazon sales figures highlight the trend well, with an older processor climbing all the way to second place.

The top spot among the platform’s best-selling CPUs is still held by 2025’s standout hit, the Ryzen 9800X3D, which is currently priced at $430 in the United States. In second place, though, is the $85 Ryzen 5 5500. To recap, this is a six-core chip based on a mobile die that first arrived on the market four years ago. However, stronger AM4 demand - driven by the lower cost of DDR4 - has done the job.

In third place, by the way, there’s another AM4 processor, only a more recent model: the Ryzen 7 5800XT, listed at $210.

Also among the leaders are the Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, Ryzen 5 7600X, Ryzen 5 5600, Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 9 9900X. On the Intel side, the most popular CPU is the Core Ultra 7 265K, which sits in 11th place.
